Design Engineer – Wiring Harnesses A well-established, Australian-owned engineering and manufacturing business is seeking a Design Engineer – Wiring Harnesses to join its growing team in Ararat. This organisation is a recognised leader in the design and manufacture of high-quality electrical wiring harnesses and assemblies, servicing industries including heavy vehicles, defence, rail, aerospace, agriculture, medical, buses/coaches, and special purpose vehicles . The Opportunity This role sits within a well-integrated engineering and manufacturing environment, focused on delivering robust, compliant and manufacturable wiring harness solutions. You will contribute to the development, documentation and support of harness designs that meet customer, regulatory and internal quality standards . Graduate engineers will receive structured mentorship from senior engineers. Experienced engineers will take end-to-end ownership of projects from concept through release. Key Responsibilities Core Responsibilities (All Levels) Create detailed wiring harness and loom designs, schematics and formboards Define connectors, terminals, seals, protective coverings, splices and mounting hardware Use Siemens Capital to generate harness designs and manufacturing documentation (BOMs, cutting lists, wire/splice tables) Interpret customer specifications and relevant industry standards Collaborate with production, quality, testing and supply chain teams Maintain engineering documentation aligned to AS9100 and ISO 9001 frameworks Support continuous improvement and structured issue resolution Additional Scope – Experienced Engineers End-to-end design ownership from concept to production release Manage design baselines, options/variants and engineering change control Lead DFM / DFT activities and support in-process & end-of-line testing strategies Apply structured problem-solving methodologies (8D, 5 Whys, FMEA) Develop Java-based automation or rules to enhance design quality and efficiency Engage directly with customers and external stakeholders Development Focus – Graduate Engineers Learn harness design fundamentals under senior supervision Build capability in Siemens Capital and digital harness workflows Gain exposure to ECAD–MCAD collaboration Develop understanding of harness testing methodologies Build knowledge of structured quality systems and compliance standards Selection Criteria Essential (All Applicants) Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics or related discipline Strong analytical and problem-solving capability High attention to detail Effective communication skills Ability to work cross-functionally in an engineering and manufacturing environment Experienced-Level Requirements Demonstrated wiring harness design experience Proficiency with ECAD tools (ideally Siemens Capital) Strong understanding of manufacturability, EMC basics and environmental constraints Java programming capability for automation or rule enhancement Graduate-Level Requirements Foundational understanding of wiring harness principles Exposure to ECAD or CAD tools via academic or internship experience Programming capability (Java or similar) desirable Why Consider This Role?
