High-output role with a clear path toward total operational oversight and a long-term transition to absentee ownership. Work with a modern fleet, John Deere GreenStar technology, and center-pivot irrigation on a premier 6,000-acre estate. The Employer Drover Ag is proud to partner with a sophisticated 6,000-acre mixed farming operation in the highly productive Southwest Slopes of New South Wales. Located just 5 minutes from Nangus and within easy commuting distance of Gundagai, Junee, and Wagga Wagga, this position represents a strategic long-term appointment for a professional looking to integrate into a high-output, exceptionally well-resourced operation. The property currently runs 8,000 sheep alongside a 1,500-hectare cropping program, supported by top-tier technology and pivot irrigation to ensure consistent production cycles. The Operation & Livestock Focus The livestock enterprise remains a core passion for the current management, centred on a carefully structured prime lamb finishing system. The breeding program is meticulously designed, beginning with purchased Merino ewes joined to Border Leicester rams to produce first-cross ewes, which are then joined to composite rams, and finally to Poll Dorset rams. This specific breed mix enables the operation to meet market specifications with extreme efficiency, typically achieving strong lambing percentages of 140% to 180%. Selling strategies remain highly responsive to market conditions. This calculated approach ensures consistent production standards while navigating the complexities of feed costs and seasonal fluctuations. Role & Mentorship As the Assistant Farm Manager (Lead 2IC), you will work directly alongside the current owner-manager in a mentorship-style arrangement. This role is designed for a quick career transition, with the long-term vision of the family moving toward absentee ownership. While you will not be expected to take the reins on day one, we are seeking a candidate who can earn trust through consistent hard work and reliability. You will be involved in daily management decisions, including careful calculation of feed costs relative to weight gain to ensure every extra kilogram of growth is profitable. The Ideal Candidate Calm and Self-Motivated: A persistent individual with a calm temperament who can work effectively within a private family dynamic. Technically Proficient: Skilled in the operation of modern machinery and familiar with John Deere and GreenStar technology, and possesses an HC truck license. Livestock Specialist: Possesses a genuine passion for sheep work and maintains their own team of working dogs specifically for a high-volume enterprise. Patience and Intuition: A "thick-skinned" professional willing to earn leadership responsibilities over time through proven reliability. Agronomic Insight: Capable of contributing to an intensive cropping and irrigation program involving grazing wheat, canola, and lucerne. The Offer This position offers a highly competitive salary package, depending on your level of experience. The role offers the option of choosing between two high-standard homes, both featuring established gardens and sheds, making either ideal for a family. A work ute is provided as part of the package, and the property's location offers a perfect balance of significant pastoral scale and proximity to major regional hubs like Wagga Wagga Interested?
