About the role Working as part of our engineering and production support team, you will be responsible for the diagnosis, repair, calibration, modification and commissioning of electronic instruments and control systems that directly support coffee roasting and packing operations. Your work will span production support, preventative maintenance and R&D-driven improvements, ensuring equipment operates safely, accurately and reliably. Key responsibilities include: Diagnosing faults in electronic control systems used on coffee roasters and packing equipment, including sensors, VFDs, PLCs, transmitters, actuators, control boards and safety circuits Performing advanced electronic fault-finding using schematics, test instruments and logical diagnostic methods Repairing or replacing electronic components, wiring and sub-assemblies to restore system performance Calibrating temperature, pressure, airflow and process control instruments to ensure consistency and product quality Installing, modifying and commissioning electronic instruments and control systems as part of upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives Supporting preventative and corrective maintenance activities within the roasting and packing plant Working with the service, production and roastery teams to develop, test and validate new control features and process enhancements Verifying system performance following repairs or modifications, including functional testing and safety checks Accurately documenting diagnostics, repairs, calibrations and technical findings What you’ll bring You are a technically capable tradesperson who enjoys working on complex, integrated systems in an industrial environment and taking ownership of technical problems from diagnosis through to resolution. Essential: AQF Certificate III or IV in Electronics, Instrumentation or Electrical/Electronic Trade, or equivalent Demonstrated a minimum of 10 years’ experience installing, maintaining and repairing electronic instruments and control systems Strong understanding of measurement and control principles, sensors, actuators, relays, valves, PLCs, VFDs and safety devices Ability to interpret electrical and electronic schematics and technical documentation Experience using electronic diagnostic and test equipment, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, frequency generators, and calibration tools A structured, analytical and safety-focused approach to fault finding Desirable: Experience with coffee roasters, food production equipment or industrial packing machinery Exposure to Siemens PLCs, S7 languages (LAD, FBD, STL, SCL), embedded control systems, or industrial communication protocols Restricted Electrical Licence (REL), or eligibility and willingness to obtain one At Five Senses Coffee, we embrace inclusivity and are dedicated to ensuring a recruitment process that is accessible to all.
