The restaurant operates a structured kitchen environment supporting lunch and dinner service, where preparation planning, ingredient quality, and presentation standards are essential to daily operations. The business is now seeking a skilled Chef who can contribute both technical capability and creative input as the restaurant continues to grow and refine its menu offering. Position Overview The Chef will be responsible for preparing high-quality menu items, coordinating kitchen activities during service, contributing to menu development, and maintaining strong food safety and stock management practices. The role requires both hands-on cooking expertise and the ability to support the operational rhythm of a full-service restaurant environment. This position will play an important role in shaping kitchen systems, supporting junior staff, and ensuring that Flavio Restaurant delivers consistent and memorable dining experiences. Key Responsibilities • Preparing and cooking modern Australian menu items across entrée, main, and service components, ensuring consistency in flavour, presentation, portion control, and service timing during busy lunch and dinner periods. • Designing and refining seasonal menus in collaboration with restaurant management, incorporating contemporary Australian cooking techniques, customer preferences, and locally sourced ingredients where possible. • Planning preparation schedules and coordinating mise en place activities to ensure the kitchen is fully prepared ahead of service periods. • Supervising kitchen operations during service to maintain workflow coordination, timing control, and communication between cooking stations and front-of-house staff. • Monitoring food quality at all stages of preparation and service to ensure dishes meet the restaurant’s culinary and presentation standards. • Training, supervising, and mentoring kitchen assistants and junior cooks, ensuring safe work practices and consistent preparation techniques across the kitchen team. • Managing procurement activities including supplier communication, ordering of ingredients, and monitoring delivery quality and stock levels. • Controlling inventory through effective storage, labelling, rotation, and stock usage practices to reduce wastage and maintain cost efficiency. • Monitoring food costs and portion control to support sustainable kitchen operations and budget management. • Maintaining compliance with food safety regulations, sanitation standards, and workplace health and safety requirements within the kitchen environment. • Ensuring safe operation, cleaning, and routine maintenance of kitchen equipment and workstations. • Liaising with restaurant management regarding menu performance, customer feedback, stock requirements, and operational improvements. • Supporting the development of kitchen procedures, preparation systems, and service coordination practices as Flavio Restaurant continues to establish its operational structure. • Participating in menu tastings, culinary planning sessions, and service reviews to continuously improve the restaurant’s dining experience. Qualifications and Experience i. Certificate IV in Kitchen Management or an equivalent or higher hospitality qualification. ii. At least 1-2 years of relevant experience working as a Chef in a commercial kitchen environment. iii. Demonstrated experience working in a full-service restaurant setting with structured service periods. iv. Strong understanding of food safety standards, kitchen organisation, and stock management practices. v. Experience preparing contemporary Australian cuisine or similar seasonal menu styles will be highly regarded. Preference will be given to Australian Citizens and Permanent Residents.
