The job: Design Manager / Drawing Office Manager required to lead and mentor a multidisciplinary design team. This is a leadership role, perfect for an Engineer from an OEM or DFM background. An individual who can step beyond individual design output and take ownership of the performance, culture, and direction of a busy design office. Provide creative leadership and set the vision and direction for design projects, ensuring compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and safety requirements. Key Responsibilities: Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary design team, fostering accountability, collaboration, continuous learning, and professional growth. Oversee all design output to ensure consistency, accuracy, and fit for purpose across drawings, models, and documentation. Develop and manage design delivery plans, track milestones, identify risks early, and optimise resource allocation. Remove bottlenecks and drive workflow efficiency across the design function. Collaborate closely with other divisions (lean, quality, sales teams) to ensure seamless integration between design intent and execution. Drive innovation through the adoption of new tools, workflows, and methodologies (PDM, automated BOM generation, clear RFI's, design sign-offs). Implement digital tools, standardisation initiatives, and continuous improvement frameworks to reduce rework and strengthen design governance (document control software, GA drawings, root cause analysis). Attributes & Skills: An Engineering Degree - Mechatronic, Mechanical. Formal Continuous Improvement / Change Management education is highly desirable. An excellent understanding of steel fabrication, mechanical, structural, and electrical engineering design is essential.
