School of Chemical Engineering – Faculty of EAIT Part-time (70%), fixed-term position for up to 31 December 2026 Base salary will be in the range $83,698.91- $111,431.10 17% Superannuation (Academic Level A) Visa sponsorship is not available for this position Based at our St Lucia Campus - Brisbane About This Opportunity We are seeking for a part-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow / Research Officer (pre- or post-doctoral) to join a Queensland–Bavaria Collaborative Research Program–funded project (2025–2026). This is an exciting work field where you will work on cutting-edge, patient-specific neurovascular cell culture models using advanced manufacturing, biomaterials, and dynamic flow systems. Based within a long-standing international collaboration between Metro North HHS (Herston Biofabrication Institute), QUT, and the Technical University of Munich, the role involves fabricating silicone and hydrogel aneurysm models, culturing vascular cells under cardiovascular flow, and simulating medical device implantation (e.g. coils and stents). Key responsibilities will include: Research: Produce high-quality research outputs aligned with disciplinary standards through publication or exhibition in leading outlets. Contribute to competitive research funding applications and collaborate with colleagues on joint research projects. Support knowledge translation to end users, including the commercialisation of UQ intellectual property. Develop a coherent research program and emerging research profile, applying best-practice research methodologies. Supervision and Researcher Development: Support effective supervision and development of students and research staff, providing feedback and managing performance, conduct, and issues in line with University policy. Citizenship and Service: Aligned with UQ values, actively contribute to unit operations, service activities, and committees, while building emerging external partnerships. About You Required attributes: prior experience in research, human cell culture, and materials fabrication (such as silicone or hydrogel formulations). Desired attributes: prior experience in advanced manufacturing of culture platforms from patient geometries, such as patient image segmentation, CAD design, 3D printing, silicone injection moulding, hydrogel formulations (i.e. dip-coating or bioprinting), (co-)culture of endothelial cells and stromal cells, material biocompatibility testing, perfused cell culture systems and a history of supporting clinically collaborative projects. For postdoctoral applicants, evidence of publications in top-quartile and -decile refereed journals. For postdoctoral applicants, evidence of contributions towards successfully obtaining external research funding. For postdoctoral applicants, some experience in meaningful service roles such as student supervision.
