Your Opportunity We have a permanent full-time opportunity for a dedicated and student-focused Teacher (Learning Support) to contribute to the delivery of high-quality learning support services across TAFE Queensland. This role plays a key part in supporting student success by delivering outcome-focused language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills training aligned to vocational contexts. The position is primarily based at our Bracken Ridge campus, with the flexibility to work across other SkillsTech campuses as required. As a Teacher (Learning Support), you will design, deliver and assess flexible and inclusive learning programs that respond to the diverse needs of learners, including students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. You will work across classroom-based, blended and distributed learning environments, applying contemporary teaching methodologies and foundation skills frameworks to support learner engagement, retention and progression. Central to this role is the ability to build effective relationships with students, educators, and internal stakeholders. You will work collaboratively with teaching teams and Student Support Services to embed foundation skills within vocational programs, contribute to assessment validation and moderation activities, and ensure learning and assessment practices meet national standards and organisational expectations. This position reports to the Manager, Student Support Services and contributes to a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and shared responsibility, supporting TAFE Queensland's commitment to accessible, equitable and industry-responsive education and training. Key Responsibilities Display teaching competence/ability to acquire teaching competence. Lead and manage teaching and learning for the classroom, industry, distance and web-based clients. Utilise flexible, blended and distributed learning techniques, options and products to meet the changing needs of various client groups. Develop effective working relationships with students, client groups and staff by participating in team meetings, industry reference groups, student events and regional forums. Ensure that students/clients develop and practice accepted safety procedures in a learning environment. Contribute to research and planning/programming, development, implementation and review of subjects/courses. Participate in appropriate staff development programs to develop and maintain currency of personal and professional skills, knowledge and attitudes. Develop and implement assessment processes and tools that meet occupational skills standards (i.e. endorsed components from National Training Packages) and participate in validation and moderation activities relating to assessment processes and practices. Qualifications / Requirements Mandatory requirements: Possession of relevant formal vocational qualification/s at the level equivalent to or higher than the level to be delivered (i.e. industry qualification – certificate, trade certificate, diploma, degree or masters). Possession of one of the following training and assessment qualifications: TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment plus TAELLN411 Address Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy Skills; TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. TAE50116/TAE50111 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training; or Higher level qualification in adult education (Bachelor or Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma) which includes a practicum component (refer Approved Higher Level Qualification list); and TAELLN411 Address Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy Skills, or demonstrated equivalence. In addition to general VET requirements, language, literacy and numeracy assessors at TAFE Queensland need to meet specific criteria related to foundation skills: Demonstrate sound knowledge of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) and the ACSF levels being assessed (primarily ACSF Level 2). Have expertise, knowledge, and skills in contextualizing and assessing core skills (learning, reading, writing, oral communication, and numeracy) within a vocational context. Hold the TAESS00009 Address Foundation Skills in Vocational Practice Skill Set (or its successor TAESS00026), or an equivalent higher-level education qualification. Examples of equivalent qualifications include the TAE80113 Graduate Diploma of Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy Practice or a relevant Bachelor's, Graduate Certificate, or Graduate Diploma of Education. Note: Proof of qualifications and industry currency/experience to be provided at interview. Highly desirable: Sound knowledge of trade related mathematical principles. Previous experience working with students with English as a Second Language (ESL) backgrounds/Non-English-Speaking Backgrounds (NESB); and Sound knowledge of sensitivities surrounding effective engagement with various people from different cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds.
