About eSafety At eSafety, we are pioneers in online safety regulation, leading global efforts to combat digital harms and foster safer, more positive online experiences for all Australians. From tackling cyberbullying and child sexual exploitation, to confronting emerging harms brought about by new innovations such as generative AI and immersive technologies, we oversee Australia's online safety landscape. About the team eSafety's Education, Prevention and Communities (EPaC) Branch oversees the design and delivery of online safety education and prevention programs and strategies. The branch's objectives are to raise awareness of online harms and safety strategies, upskill, embed protective behaviours and reduce harms associated with being online. Programs and strategies are targeted to a wide range of audiences including children, young people, parents and carers, educators, adults most at risk of harm, and older Australians. The Safer Communities team delivers targeted programs and projects to support those adults most at risk of online harm. This includes First Nations people, women, those from LGBTIQ communities, culturally diverse audiences, adults with cognitive disability and older Australians. The team also works on programs to reach these at-risk audiences through upskilling organisations and those on the frontline, such as the sports sector and athletes. The team's support for these audiences aims to be targeted, effective, and up-to-date with emerging technologies and online safety trends. The team's role includes building relationships across relevant sectors and communities, ensuring existing and new eSafety resources meet diverse audience needs, and promoting online safety best practice across government and non-governmental organisations. It also includes leading eSafety's work under the National Plan to End Violence Against Women and Children, work to explore the gender-based impacts of online abuse, and support for older Australians to get online safely through the Be Connected digital skills program. About the role This is an exciting opportunity to lead the Safer Communities team in delivering online safety programs and support to those communities most at risk of online harms, equipping these communities to have safer online experiences. As the team's lead, you will be responsible for identifying and recommending priority areas for program development. In doing this you will take on board the latest research about online harms, your understanding of what type of support will be most effective for each audience, and how this work aligns with eSafety wide objectives and priorities. The key duties of the position include overseeing the development of evidence based online safety support for communities most at risk of online harms (including First Nations people, women, those from LGBTIQ communities, culturally diverse audiences, adults with cognitive disability and older Australians) leading a team of 8 online safety education specialists, all of whom have direct experience working with one or more of the team's target communities or sectors leading stakeholder engagement with key community groups and government agencies ensuring consultation and codesign processes are in place and inform decision making leading policy work such as exploring the relationship between gender and online harms, input into the National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children, and into other policies or programs that impact at risk communities program and policy oversight for the Be Connected program, which aims to build the digital skills of older Australians overseeing team budgets and ensuring a project management approach working with managers across the branch and eSafety and modelling a positive and collaborative approach.
