The key duties of the position include The Role The Program Security Manager provides timely, expert advice and direction in accordance with Australian Government and Defence Security policies to a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, including: Hunter Class Frigate Branch (HCFB); Head Contractor; National Shipbuilding & Sustainment Group branches; Royal Australian Navy; Multiple stakeholders across Defence including the Defence Security Division, Australian Signals Directorate and Joint Capabilities Group; and Australian and foreign supply chain entities. The role leads the HCFB security team across Governance, Personnel, Physical, Information and Cyber Security domains to ensure effective security outcomes aligned with program objectives. Key responsibilities include: Communicating complex security advice in clear, practical terms for key stakeholders. Collaborating with external stakeholders to maintain strategic security alignment. Managing the security governance and assurance activities undertaken by the security team across personnel, physical and cyber domains. Representing the security directorate and chairing key program Working Groups. The Program Security Manager is accountable for continuously monitoring and sustaining security standards and governance obligations across the Branch and SEA5000 Program. Demonstrated experience developing and implementing policies in accordance with national security frameworks including the Information Security Manual (ISM). Familiarity with international security standards and arrangements; including the International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR) and Foreign Military Sales (FMS). Strategic Leadership: Capable of aligning security objectives with program goals. Skilled in leading multidisciplinary teams and fostering collaboration across industry and international partners. Strong decision-making under pressure, especially in time-sensitive scenarios. Stakeholder Engagement: Excellent communication and negotiation skills to influence a diverse range of stakeholders with competing priorities. Ability to build trusted relationships across government, contractors, and global partners. Governance & Compliance: Demonstrated experience in Security incident triage and management. Demonstrated experience in developing and sustaining security standards within a large enterprise/program and workforce. Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Demonstrated experience in assessing threats, vulnerabilities, and risks, experience with ISO31000:2018 or HB 167:2006 Security Risk Management standards. Proactive in developing mitigation strategies and remediation plans. Adaptability & Resilience: Comfortable operating in complex, high-stakes environments. Ability to adapt to evolving threats, technologies, and program requirements.
