The Chief Technology & Data Officer (CTDO) Branch drives AEC's digital resilience and data-driven transformation through four core areas: Cloud and Infrastructure Operations ensures secure, scalable systems; IT Service Operations provides nationwide IT support and logistics; Enterprise Technical Enablement manages devices, network security, and technical initiatives; and Data Capability Exchange oversees data strategy, engineering, AI governance, and geospatial services. Together, these functions enable reliable technology and data capabilities for electoral operations and organisational efficiency. The Cloud and Infrastructure Operations section aims to ensure resilient, secure platforms and Infrastructure that supports electoral processes. Its priorities are reliable services, accessible systems, and data integrity to maintain democratic operations and public trust. This section manages cloud and on-premises servers, monitors infrastructure, optimises cloud costs, responds to incidents, handles data storage, and enforces policies. Teams include Hosting Platforms, Server and Infrastructure Support, Identity and Access Management, and Database and Linux. Collaborating with business and technical units, the section ensures platform reliability, cost optimisation, and efficient support for day-to-day activities. The key duties of the position include The CTDO Branch is looking for a Cloud engineer to join the Hosting Platforms team, which operates within the Cloud and Infrastructure Operations Section. This role works closely with the Platform Lead and reports directly to the Director of Cloud and Infrastructure Operations and is tasked with managing day to day monitoring and performance of hosting platforms to ensure smooth delivery of cloud infrastructure services, focusing on the day-to-day operations of AEC systems. The Hosting Platforms Team is responsible for the delivery and maintenance of a range of cloud capabilities that directly supports collaboration across the organisation, delivers cloud-based solutions to support operational and business outcomes. The team is a multi-disciplinary team focused on delivering business value and continuous improvement by leveraging innovative cloud-based solutions. There are currently opportunities to support public cloud platforms including Azure, Cloud and AWS. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant contribution to the delivery of electoral events and day-to-day operations through an improved maturity of AEC's Cloud Engineer, Chief Technology Officer Branch Page 2 systems. The role is responsible for leading very complex and/or sensitive work, under minimal direction, utilising expertise across a range of activities relating to IT Service Management. The role will work closely with team members, section, branch staff to implement best practices and ensuring reliability, scalability and applicable security compliance measures are in place to protect our systems and data. The role will work as a member of a multidisciplinary team, investigating and resolving complex issues as it relates to the hosting platforms environment and supporting the broader infrastructure team, as required. This role will participate in an on-call roster, the role will also participate in training to ensure skills are maintained in alignment with industry trends and advancements. To excel you'll have: A degree in Information Technology or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience, with a minimum of 5 years working in similar role in government or state government environments. Extensive demonstrated experience working within IT Infrastructure, working in hybrid cloud and on-premises environments and experience in virtualization, cloud computing, and storage technologies. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on scalable and secure solutions. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across all levels and ability to manage key stakeholders. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in deploying, testing, and maintaining an enterprise sized ICT environment. Knowledge and experience in applicable risk management principles and processes in context of security patching and infrastructure management. Proven understanding of ITIL, TOGAF concepts with a focus on Incident, Problem and Change Management and knowledge of the Commonwealth frameworks, including the PSPF and ISM. Desirable Experience designing, coding, testing, documenting, and amending complex programs and scripts. Experience with automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Terraform, Ansible) and DevOps. Exposure to automation, system integration, and cloud migration projects. Experience in disaster recovery and understanding of business continuity processes and availability management. Demonstrated knowledge of and/or experience in Azure services, including some or all of the following: Infrastructure as a service (IaaS) setup and management. Web Apps, Web APIs, Azure Functions Identity - Entra ID (AAD) & Azure B2C familiarity. Azure Web App Registrations. Certificate management. Secrets / Key vault management
