This is a 12 month Fixed-Term position YOUR ROLE The Student Mental Health Specialist provides expert guidance on school practices that promote positive mental health, drives the implementation of a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS), and assists schools in meeting legislative requirements to address the diverse needs of all students. This includes supporting schools in establishing protocols and practices to effectively respond to mental health issues. Job Description WHAT YOU WILL DO Provide evidence-based consultation and resources to members of the SEU and other MACS office teams (e.g., Risk, Complex cases) to support the provision of systemic approaches to the inclusion of students with mental health issues, including attendance concerns Provide evidence-based consultancy services to schools to ensure that teachers and school staff are supported in meeting the needs of students with mental health concerns, which may include case direction and ongoing support Liaise with educators to support engagement with allied health professionals, and external support agencies specific to individual student needs to support access to education Maintain ongoing evidence-based learning through participation in MACS and other relevant provider professional development Accurately document case notes and consultations with schools and related recommendations consistent with MACS policies, guidelines and ICT tools Demonstrated understanding of key legislation, including mandatory reporting requirements, case notes and ethical/legal conflicts and considerations ABOUT YOU Comprehensive understanding of, and ability to apply, current best-practice, approaches for the assessment and management of students with mental health issues in education settings Demonstrated ability to provide consultancy support to teachers and school leaders, informing appropriate adjustments to achieve the inclusion of students with mental health needs Proven ability to work effectively with system and school leaders to build teacher capacity and implement a broad range of programs and adjustments that support student needs Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead inclusive practice, manage complex conversations, work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, and adapt communication to diverse contexts Demonstrated ICT skills to organise workload, and to develop, produce, and deliver presentations and resources Salary range for this position is $118,234 (T2/1) - $138496 (T2/6) per annum exclusive of superannuation as specified in the Catholic Education Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2022 .
