The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Senior Assistant Manager, Pre-Reception, Planning and Custodial Logistics to provide a critical role within Sentence Management Division. About the Business Unit Sitting within the Corrections and Justice Services Group, Corrections Victoria (CV) operates Victoria's adult corrections system. CV is responsible for achieving the appropriate balance between a safe, secure and humane system while providing programs and services that seek to rehabilitate people through addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour. The Sentence Management Division (SMD) sits within Corrections Victoria and consists of the following units: Sentence Management Operations Sentence Calculation and Warrant Administration Video Conferencing Coordination Unit Complex Classification Unit Counter Terrorism Coordination Office of the Assistant Commissioner Maribyrnong Community Residential Facility MARAM Framework Implementation Sentence Management Operations is responsible for identifying the needs of people in custody and matching them to correctional resources with the objective of placing and managing them appropriately. It is a process of balancing security, management and needs of people in custody, the community's need for protection and efficient and effective operation of the correctional system. Sentence Management Operations is responsible for guiding the journey of people during their sentence. About the Role The Senior Assistant Manager, Pre Reception, Planning and Custodial Logistics is a key liaison point between Sentence Management Operations and the Custody Management Division within Victoria Police. The role provides advice based on information available from Corrections Victoria's systems to inform Victoria Police decision making with a view to maximise bed utilisation in Victoria Police court cells, while ensuring that risks and needs are managed effectively. The role is also responsible for leading a pre-reception screening function to identify people who may be able to enter prison custody sooner. Some of your duties will include: Manage the interface and oversee the process between police cells and reception prisons, working to minimise the number of people in police cells. Assess risks and provide authoritative advice based on information from Corrections Victoria's information systems associated with custody placements, ensuring safety, security, and compliance with policy requirements. Conduct pre-reception screening assessments for people in police custody to inform appropriate placement within Corrections Victoria's prisons. Collaborate with Victoria Police and other stakeholders to coordinate system intake and flow by optimising bed occupancy, and maintain safe and sustainable operations Develop policies and procedures to strengthen strategic direction and operational effectiveness within Sentence Management Operations. Monitor and report custody placement trends to inform planning, resource allocation, and continuous improvement initiatives. About you To be successful in this role, you will have: Significant experience and demonstrated leadership in management, assessment and classification practices and transfer of prisoners. Sound knowledge and understanding of Corrections Victoria's operations, relevant legislation and regulations, and policies and procedures.
