Legal Assessors are responsible for: Assessing requests for grants of legal assistance in complex family law, criminal law and civil law proceedings; Attending and appearing in court on behalf of Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) in relation to funding decisions made by VLA and providing legal support to the Managing Lawyer and the leadership team; Providing advice to the leadership team on policy issues affecting VLA and assisting in the development and implementation of changes to VLA's guidelines, scales of fees and policies. This role can be based at our Melbourne CBD office on Wurundjeri Country or our regional offices . About you As our ideal candidate, you will possess: The ability to analyse and interpret laws and policies and apply them to complex facts and situations. Strong commitment to building collaborative relationships within the team and across the organisation. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal to translate complex legal content into plain language.
