Senior Manager – Strategic Communications Daily Rate: $1,300 Super Contract Type: Contract Location: Sydney CBD (Hybrid – 3 days in office) Travel: Required every few months Experience Required: 10 years Project Overview This role supports a major renewable energy infrastructure program delivering new transmission lines, energy hubs, and enabling infrastructure to connect large-scale solar and wind generation to electricity consumers. The project is high-profile, multi-stakeholder, and regionally significant. Role Overview The Senior Manager – Strategic Communications is responsible for leading and delivering end-to-end strategic communications across a complex infrastructure program. The role provides senior-level advice, oversees messaging and stakeholder communications, and manages a small communications leadership team. This position has two direct manager reports , including the Project Communications Manager, and plays a key role in shaping communication strategy, risk management, and executive engagement. Key Responsibilities Lead and deliver strategic communications plans aligned to program objectives. Provide senior communications advice on complex, high-risk and high-profile issues. Oversee messaging, media responses, stakeholder communications, and issues management. Manage and mentor two direct manager reports and guide a small communications team. Ensure consistency of messaging across internal, external, community, and government channels. Support executive and senior leadership with briefings, talking points, and presentations. Identify and manage reputational risks and emerging issues. Coordinate communications activities across multiple workstreams and delivery partners. Oversee quality assurance of communications materials and approvals. Key Skills & Experience 10 years’ experience in strategic communications, ideally within government, infrastructure, or large-scale programs. Proven leadership experience managing senior staff and small teams. Strong issues management, stakeholder engagement, and executive advisory capability. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience working in politically sensitive or community-facing environments. Ability to operate at pace in a complex, evolving project environment. This role focuses on tactical delivery, coordination, and implementation of project communications activities. The role manages a small team and works closely with project leads, delivery partners, and stakeholders to ensure timely, clear, and consistent communication. Key Responsibilities Deliver project-level communications plans and activities. Develop content including briefings, updates, newsletters, fact sheets, and presentations. Coordinate internal and external communications across project milestones. Support community and stakeholder communications activities. Assist with issues management and reactive communications. Manage approvals processes and ensure quality and consistency of materials. Monitor communication risks and escalate issues as required. Support reporting on communications activities and outcomes. Supervise and support junior communications staff. Key Skills & Experience Experience delivering communications on infrastructure, government, or complex projects. Strong writing, editing, and coordination skills. Experience managing or supporting small teams. Ability to work collaboratively with technical and project teams. Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities. Experience working in hybrid environments and adapting to changing project needs.
