Draftsperson / CNC Operator Heavy Steel Fabrication | Mining, Oil & Gas About the company This is a well-established Australian heavy steel fabrication business working across mining, oil and gas, and major engineering projects. A new plasma cutter was installed recently, and the business continues to modernise its drafting and programming capability. About the role This role suits someone who is hands-on with CAD drafting and CNC programming, and who understands how drawings translate to steel on the floor. You will be responsible for producing workshop-ready drawings and programming for CNC plasma cutting. The role is a mix of drafting, modelling, and CNC programming, not standing on a machine all day. Programming work makes up around 20–25 hours per week , with the balance focused on drafting, detailing, and supporting fabrication projects. Typical responsibilities include: Producing 2D drawings, 3D models, and workshop drawings Drafting and detailing steel components for fabrication CNC plasma programming for cutting operations Interpreting blueprints, work orders, and engineering documentation Calculating dimensions, tolerances, angles, and material requirements Supporting smaller projects with planning and sequencing Working closely with the workshop to ensure drawings are practical and buildable Requirements for the role Experience as a Draftsperson, CNC Programmer, CNC Operator, or similar Strong CAD skills with experience creating fabrication and workshop drawings Experience programming CNC machinery, plasma cutting experience highly regarded Background in heavy steel fabrication, mining, oil and gas, or engineering environments Why this role stands out Mix of drafting and CNC programming, not repetitive machine operation Modern workshop with updated equipment Stable workload across mining and heavy engineering projects Long-term role with variety and responsibility At Found People, we treat all applications with strict confidentiality.
