Staff Specialist Consultant Geriatrician Central Gippsland Health Service (CGHS) Permanent | Full-Time or Fractional Considered Appointment Level: Staff Specialist (commensurate with years of experience) About Central Gippsland Health Service Central Gippsland Health Service (CGHS) is the major provider of acute health, community health, and residential aged care services across Wellington Shire, serving a local population of approximately 42,000, with specialist services extending across East Gippsland. CGHS operates across three campuses – Sale, Maffra, and Heyfield, delivering a broad range of services including: Over 110 acute beds Approximately 180 residential aged care beds 24/7 Emergency Department Operating theatres and day procedure unit Oncology and dialysis services Critical Care Unit providing ventilation and haemofiltration Multidisciplinary inpatient, outpatient, home-based, rehabilitation, and community health services The service manages approximately: 12,000 acute inpatient admissions per year 17,000 Emergency Department presentations annually CGHS offers a wide range of general and visiting specialist services including general medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, urology, ophthalmology, endoscopy, paediatrics, and visiting subspecialties such as vascular surgery, ENT, upper GI surgery, and IVF. The Consultant Geriatrician will provide senior specialist medical leadership within General Medicine and Geriatric Medicine, working collaboratively with other physicians and the Critical Care Unit. Care is delivered within a coordinated, patient-centred model, ensuring seamless integration across hospital, community, and aged care services. Provide specialist-level care as a General Physician and Geriatrician, aligned with CGHS scope of practice and clinical capability. Deliver comprehensive management of: Acute medical presentations Exacerbations of chronic disease Complex patients with multiple comorbidities Provide longitudinal care for patients with chronic and geriatric conditions. Arrange ongoing medical management in collaboration with tertiary referral centres when required. Participate in the on-call Physician roster, including after-hours support to: Emergency Department Critical Care Unit Inpatient wards Provide outpatient and community-based consulting services, including (as agreed): Rapid Access Medical Clinic Community Geriatric Support Service General Medical Clinics Geriatric Clinics Rehabilitation in the Home Subacute care in community hospitals Medical Discharge Clinics Hospital in the Home services Provide clinical and professional leadership within the medical division. Work collaboratively with Nurse Unit Managers and multidisciplinary teams. Offer consultative support to other specialties managing complex medical patients. Advise Executive leadership on: Service planning and development Equipment and resource requirements Supervise and train: Interns Registrars Junior Medical Officers Medical students Support procedural supervision where appropriate. Participate in and contribute to: Grand Rounds Teaching sessions Clinical presentations Continuing medical education programs Actively engage in: Clinical audit Morbidity and mortality reviews Case reviews Journal clubs Accreditation and quality improvement activities Promote and practice evidence-based medicine across individual and population-level care.
