This position offers the opportunity to apply your engineering knowledge while initially focusing on planning, investigation and project administration for road corridors and transport-related projects. What we are looking for: As the Roads Engineer, you will support the investigation, planning and management of road and transport infrastructure projects across the region. While an engineering qualification is essential, the early focus of the role will be on planning, project administration and technical coordination rather than detailed design. You will work closely with the Roads Technical Team, provide advice across Council, and contribute to development assessment processes to ensure road safety, transport efficiency and infrastructure risk are effectively managed. This role suits someone who enjoys problem‑solving, stakeholder engagement and working across multiple projects in a dynamic environment. What your day will look like: Lead and coordinate investigations and planning activities for road and transport infrastructure, including assessing customer requests and identifying appropriate actions. Provide technical advice and support to the Roads Technical Team and internal stakeholders on road safety, traffic, transport and development‑related matters. Manage Council’s input into development applications and planning proposals from a transport and road risk management perspective. Prepare project documentation, reports and presentations for the Forward Works Program, and support project budgeting and planning. Oversee external consultants through the preparation of briefs, contract documentation and project administration. What you’ll need for success: Degree in Civil Engineering (AQF Level 7 or above) or equivalent Demonstrated experience leading people, contracts, resources and projects to deliver cost‑effective road infrastructure. Strong knowledge of road engineering, including infrastructure planning and design. Solid understanding of the Development Application process and preparation of engineering conditions. Well‑developed interpersonal and negotiation skills to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. Experience managing budgets and financial resources within an operational or project environment. Strong written communication skills, including preparing reports and correspondence for transport, traffic and road engineering projects. Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and review procedures and operational guidelines that support business outcomes.
