About Hummingbird House Hummingbird House is Queensland’s only children’s hospice, providing specialist paediatric palliative care for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions. We are committed to delivering compassionate, family-centred care that enhances quality of life, supports dignity at the end of life, and walks alongside families throughout their journey. About the Role The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing holistic, child-centred and family-focused nursing care to guests of Hummingbird House. This role supports the multidisciplinary clinical team to deliver high-quality paediatric palliative care in a hospice environment. Key responsibilities include: Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating holistic nursing care for babies, children and young people with life-limiting and complex health conditions, in accordance with accepted nursing practice and standards Developing, implementing and regularly reviewing individualised care plans in collaboration with children, families and the interdisciplinary health care team Providing nursing interventions, treatments and therapies, including administering medications, monitoring responses to treatment, and managing pain and other symptoms to ensure comfort and quality of life Supporting children and families through acute illness, ongoing care needs, end-of-life care and bereavement, taking into account physical, social, cultural and family circumstances Educating and supporting children and families by answering questions and providing information about disease progression, treatment options, care plans and available support services Promoting health and assisting in the prevention of ill health through participation in health education and supportive care initiatives Maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with accreditation, professional and regulatory standards Working in consultation with other health professionals and coordinating care delivery, including supervising and supporting Enrolled Nurses and other health care workers where required About you Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Experience or qualifications in paediatric nursing, palliative care and/or pain management Effective written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills, and an understanding of the process of death and bereavement A sound understanding of paediatric end-of-life care, grief and bereavement Proof of Vaccination Status as required by Legislation, Health Directives or WMQ Policy throughout employment and prior to commencement.
