The Company Rice Breeding Australia Ltd (RBA) is a not-for-profit company established to strengthen rice breeding outcomes for the Australian rice industry. RBA provides commercial focus and coordination to ensure rice breeding contributes to improved water productivity and the long-term viability of Australian rice production. The members of the company are AgriFutures Australia, SunRice and the Rice Growers Association. The Opportunity This role supports the Rice Breeder and breeding team across day-to-day operations in the field, glasshouse, and controlled environments. The Rice Technical Officer plays a key role in trial execution, data collection, and operational support throughout the breeding cycle. You will work closely with the Rice Breeder and technical staff, contributing directly to variety development while building strong practical capability in applied plant breeding. Training is provided, with scope to grow as the program and infrastructure expand. You will also be directly involved in: Establishing, maintaining, and harvesting field and glasshouse trials Data collection, plant sampling, and accurate record-keeping Supporting trial implementation and experimental protocols Maintaining breeding databases and records Undertaking regular field and glasshouse work in variable seasonal conditions Working collaboratively to meet breeding and production timelines About You You are hands-on, reliable, and comfortable working outdoors in agricultural environments. You take accuracy seriously, follow processes well, and enjoy contributing as part of a small technical team. An interest in plant breeding, crop research, or applied agriculture is essential. This role suits a graduate or early-career professional, including candidates with some industry or research experience beyond university.
