ABOUT THE VETERANS' AFFAIRS MINISTERIAL ADVISORY COUNCIL The Australian Government is inviting expressions of interest to fill up to 10 positions on the Veterans' Affairs Ministerial Advisory Council. We are seeking a broad range of candidates with diverse professional and lived experience from across Australia to provide independent advice to the Minister of Veterans' Affairs on the experiences and needs of serving personnel, veterans and families. The Council will also provide advice on veterans services including the administration and stewardship of support and services provided to serving personnel, veterans and families and will collaborate with other advisory bodies, experts and those with lived experience to develop advice. The key duties of the position include Candidates who have the following are encouraged to apply: strong background interest and experience in, as well as an understanding of, the issues affecting the wellbeing of veterans and families subject matter expertise in one or more of the following areas: health (including mental health); rehabilitation; aged-care; financial supports and compensation; veterans claims, commemoration; and lived experience strategic senior leadership or board experience. To ensure the Veterans' Affairs Ministerial Advisory Council has a balance of skills, diverse backgrounds and different perspectives people with a diversity of skills, perspectives, abilities, life experience and backgrounds are encouraged to apply. TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF APPOINTMENT The Veterans' Affairs Ministerial Advisory Council will have 10 members with relevant expertise. Members will be appointed for a term of up to two years from the date of appointment, unless otherwise stipulated by the Minister. The Council will meet at least four times a year with a combination of virtual and in person meetings. Members will receive daily fees for participation on the Council outlined in the Remuneration Tribunal (Remuneration and Allowances for Holders of Part-time Public Office) Determination 2025. For members with specialist medical qualifications, a higher fee may be considered. Members travel costs and incidentals will be paid for by the Department of Veterans' Affairs.
