About the Role We are recruiting for the Student Project Officer role in the Environment team within the City Strategy Unit. This team has a focus on environmental sustainability and resilience, working to make Parramatta a City for nature. The Environment team is responsible for policies and projects across a range of areas, including: Environmental planning and policy, such as climate change adaptation, nature positive, blue-green infrastructure and sustainable development Sustainability and resilience initiatives, including renewable energy, net-zero and low carbon development, and the Circular Economy transition Study and research focusing on emerging environmental and ecological trends to inform decision making Development Control Plan (DCP) review to align with sustainability and environmental objectives As a Student Project Officer, you will work collaboratively to assist the delivery of strategic projects within City Strategy in a way that is consistent with Council’s values of customer focus, innovation, teamwork, and integrity. The Student Project Officer role is part-time role (21 hours per week over 3 days) over a 2-year period designed to engage University, TAFE (or equivalent) students who are on their last or second final year/s of study and are enrolled in a relevant full or part-time course. About You Applicants will ideally have a background in environmental science, city resilience and climate change risks, natural environment management or environmental sustainability but may come from a wide range of disciplines. More importantly, applicants will be enthusiastic, driven, and proactive, with the ability to work independently and efficiently with a range of internal and external stakeholders to deliver positive outcomes for our community. The successful candidate should have: An innovative approach to their work, with examples of solving complex problems through collaboration or working independently. Project management skills, including demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines. Experience working in multidisciplinary teams. A strong academic record. A strong desire to be a part of shaping the future of Parramatta. Qualifications You also must be enrolled in your final or second final year of University, TAFE (or equivalent) in a coursework that relates to strategy, the built environment, policy development, or other relevant fields of study.
