Job Description The Asia Group (TAG) is now accepting applications for a Managing Director / Principal to join our Australia Practice. This role will be based in Canberra, Australia. The Managing Director / Principal will lead the in-country Australia team’s fast-paced daily operations, client engagement, and business development efforts while reporting to the Australia Practice Partner. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting and growing our portfolio of clients. Areas of focus will include team leadership, crafting and leading market access and expansion campaigns, and offering creative solutions for clients. Our ideal candidate has deep experience working in leadership roles, ideally in both business and government, and will possess a strong grasp of Australia’s government processes and decision-making, its business landscape and opportunities, as well as the ability to convert this knowledge into actionable outcomes and recommendations for key clients. The ideal candidate also possesses a robust network of contacts throughout the Australian government and business communities and can leverage their relationships to drive positive outcomes for clients and business development for the firm. Priority will be given to those applicants with demonstrated senior leadership positions, have won and successfully implemented major government or private sector contracts, and client and project management and business development proficiency with significant stakeholder engagement experience. Responsibilities Include: Manage and drive the day-to-day activities of the in-country Australia team and oversee the development of briefings and written materials for TAG leadership and clients Coordinate and manage Australia-related TAG communications and liaison with key clients Oversee client servicing, client engagements and activities, and business development in Australia, including tenders from commonwealth and state governments Lead an active, fast-paced team with expertise and activities across a broad range of issue areas Facilitate and lead integration and collaboration across TAG's global offices and practices Oversee office operations, compliance, and alignment with TAG's global standards Invest in mentoring and developing staff, fostering a culture of teamwork, creativity, and entrepreneurialism Develop relationships with key stakeholders in government, industry, academia, and media to advance firm interests and address client needs Job Requirements Required Skills and Qualifications: Advanced degree (e.g.MA/MBA/MPP)and 15 plus years’ relevant work experience. Experience in finance, government relations, mining and infrastructure, consulting, the public sector, or comparable experience, demonstrating the ability to work in an independent and self-reliant manner Strong leader, demonstrated by a clear record of success leading business operations and effective teams in high-tempo environments Effective communicator, demonstrated by the ability to present in a polished and effective manner to senior business executives and other senior level interlocutors in multinational settings Demonstrated knowledge of key elements of the Australian private sector such as technology or finance, its regulatory environment, and relevant government policies Experience in client servicing, business development, project management and autonomous execution Flexibility with respect to working and communication hours, particularly when coordinating with clients and team members in Washington D.C. as well as other TAG offices in the region Job Benefits Candidates must be eligible to work in Australia.
