Your role at St John of God Midland Hospital You will work in a fast-paced, accelerated environment that requires adapting very quickly to urgent and emergency situations and thriving on the unpredictability of the department. Our accident and emergency department nurses are supported by our medical teams to be able to make quick and skilled clinical decisions fostering a strong alliance between doctors and nurses. The Clinical Nurse acts as a responsible and effective team member and leader, assists in the overall clinical management of the Unit, is responsible for the provision of comprehensive patient care. Participates in direct patient care and assists the Nurse Manager with supervision and management duties ensuring all ward activities are in accordance with the ongoing Mission, Philosophy and Values of the St John of God Health Care and objectives of the Nursing Division. The Position Supervises nursing practice and takes responsibility for standard of nursing care delivered. Acts a clinical resource, maintains and develops clinical skills relevant to area of practice. Initiates reviews and coordinates care of patients with complex health problems. Actively contributes to the development of clinical policies and procedures in area of specialty. Ensures documentation meets hospital standards and legal requirements. Is aware of and works in accordance with SGJHC policies and procedures, including Equal Employment Opportunity, Confidentiality and Privacy. Coordinates the department effectively ensuring continuity of care, and takes action on problems encountered. Participates in the performance management of caregivers in conjunction with the Nurse Manager. Supervises the practice of Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses and Patient Care Assistants. Encourages the development of relationships with all hospital and visiting staff, which promote a harmonious working environment. Selection Criteria Registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse / Midwife Significant recent post-registration experience and the ability to practice at an advanced level. Knowledge of relevant acts, codes and standards relevant to current practice. Well-developed leadership skills, including the ability to supervise, give direction and delegate to the team. Ability to plan, assess and develop team and individual performance. Effective communication skills, demonstrate and support professional accountability. Strong stakeholder management skills and an ability to effectively engage with a range of senior and operational stakeholders. Ability to identify and solve problems, including conflict resolution. Commitment to lead and participate in quality improvement initiatives including but not limited to patient safety, care standards and operational efficiency. Knowledge of relevant contemporary computer information systems. Ability to educate, support and mentor patients, family and caregivers. Demonstrated commitment to personal ongoing education and professional development.
