We’re partnering with a well-established, growth-focused retail business to appoint a Head of Buying / Product to lead a broad General Merchandise portfolio, including homewares, furniture and lifestyle categories. This is a senior leadership role with genuine end-to-end ownership, spanning product strategy, range architecture, commercial performance and team leadership and will suit someone who thrives at the intersection of product, customer and commercial outcomes. The Opportunity Reporting into senior executive leadership, you will be responsible for defining and executing the category and product strategy across a diverse general merchandise portfolio. You’ll lead a team of Buyers and Category Managers, driving ranges that are customer-led, commercially sound and scalable as the business continues to grow. This is not a transactional buying role, it’s about setting direction, making informed trade-offs, and building high-performing categories that deliver on margin, sell-through and brand proposition. Key Responsibilities Own the end-to-end buying and product strategy across homewares, furniture and general merchandise Define and evolve range architecture, pricing strategy and OTB management Lead, coach and develop a team of buyers and assistants Drive strong supplier relationships, negotiation and sourcing strategy Partner closely with Planning, Design, Supply Chain and Marketing Monitor and optimise category performance through trading, analysis and action Balance innovation and newness with core, repeatable volume drivers Ensure ranges align with customer insights, brand positioning and commercial targets You’ll bring: Proven experience in a senior buying, category or product leadership role Strong understanding of range development, margin management and trading Experience leading and developing teams in a fast-paced retail environment Confidence working with senior stakeholders and influencing at an executive level A customer-first mindset, balanced with commercial rigour The ability to think strategically while staying close to the detail Why This Role?
