This role is instrumental in embedding IPC and food safety principles within the core pillars of clinical governance - leadership and culture, customer participation, care and clinical effectiveness, effective workforce and care and clinical risk management. Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and service leaders and the Clinical Advisor - IPC, the senior clinical advisor will develop and implement evidence-based infection prevention and food safety strategies, lead surveillance programs, and drive continuous improvement in infection control and food safety practices. The role requires strategic thinking to anticipate and respond to emerging infectious disease threats and food safety risks, including pandemic preparedness and response coordination You’ll empower individuals to live more independently, safely, and meaningfully by: Provide strategic leadership in IPC and food safety, promoting a positive safety and quality culture Champion evidence-based IPC practices and serve as an organisational subject matter expert Lead change management initiatives to embed IPC and food safety principles into daily clinical and operational practice Engage customers and families in understanding IPC measures and their role in maintaining safe care environment Develop, implement and evaluate comprehensive IPC and food safety programs in collaboration with food safety Subject Matter Experts (SME) based on current evidence and best practice guidelines Lead surveillance programs to monitor infection rates, foodborne illness incidents, analyse trends, and implement targeted interventions Coordinate clinical audit programs specific to IPC and food safety and oversee implementation of recommendations Lead systematic identification, assessment and management of infection-related and food safety risks across all services Coordinate outbreak investigation and management, including foodborne illness outbreaks, implementing appropriate containment measures Evaluate and implement new IPC and food safety technologies, including antimicrobial surfaces, air filtration systems, food safety monitoring equipment and digital surveillance tools What We’re Looking For Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse Bachelor’s degree in nursing with 10 years of clinical practice experience including leadership roles Extensive expertise in IPC principles, practices and contemporary guidelines Demonstrated knowledge in food safety management, HACCP principles, and food safety regulatory compliance Proven experience in clinical governance, quality improvement methodologies, and healthcare standards/accreditation Demonstrated success leading IPC and food safety programs and achieving measurable improvements in outcomes Advanced understanding of surveillance methodologies, outbreak investigation (including foodborne illness) and pandemic preparedness Proven experience in clinical audit, risk management, and analysing IPC and food safety performance metrics Strong understanding of person-centred care principles and customer engagement strategies Excellent communication, networking and stakeholder management skills with ability to influence at all organisational levels Project management expertise with demonstrated ability to lead complex IPC and food safety initiatives Proven ability to provide clinical leadership across multidisciplinary teams and facilitate organisational change A Valuable Addition, Yet Not a Must-Have!
