In this role, you will drive technical direction and architecture decisions, with a strong focus on Kubernetes and AWS cloud-native solutions, cost and performance optimization, and modern engineering practices. You will play a key role in shaping our future technology landscape. While we currently leverage COTS solutions hosted on Kubernetes, we’re on a journey toward more AWS-native approaches and greater in-house capability. Your expertise will help define the roadmap, ensuring scalability, resilience, and security as we evolve. As a Staff Engineer, you will also play a critical role in building a best-in-class run capability within the squad, ensuring operational excellence, reliability, and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities Lead, design, and deploy high-quality, cloud-native software solutions with comprehensive test coverage. Architect and implement Kubernetes/AWS-based solutions, ensuring scalability, security, and cost optimization. Build and embed best-in-class run capability within the squad, focusing on operational resilience, observability, and automation. Optimize cloud cost and performance using tools like Karpenter for autoscaling and Apptio Cloudability for cost management. Provide technical leadership and mentorship, guiding engineers on best practices, design patterns, and career development. Apply and promote industry-leading patterns and practices, including CI/CD automation, DevSecOps, and SRE principles. Take ownership of technical assets, roadmaps, and strategic engineering initiatives. We don’t expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these (or equivalents) will set you up for success in this team; Experience with the following will set you up for success: API Development: Proficiency in Java/J2EE (Spring) or .Net OR Python (FastAPI) for building RESTful APIs. Cloud Platforms: Strong hands-on experience with AWS services (EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, RDS, S3, IAM, CloudFormation/Terraform). Cost & Performance Optimization: Familiarity with Karpenter, Apptio Cloudability, and AWS cost management strategies. Architecture: Microservices design, event-driven systems (Kafka), and distributed systems. CI/CD & Automation: GitHub Actions, Artifactory, AWS DevOps and FIS; strong understanding of DevSecOps and SRE best practices. Security & Compliance: Familiarity with cloud security patterns, IAM policies, and compliance frameworks. Data Layer: Relational databases (Postgres/Oracle), NoSQL (MongoDB), and data warehousing solutions. Desirable: Experience with AI/ML tooling and observability platforms.
