What you'll do You’ll be a hands-on, senior technical leader responsible for defining and guiding the long-term technical vision and strategy for the business. Your purpose will be to ensure all platform and product teams are building solutions that are scalable, secure, maintainable, and aligned with our strategic goals. This is not an "ivory tower" role. You’ll lead by example, earning the respect of engineering teams through deep technical expertise and collaboration. You’ll enable our autonomous platform teams to move quickly and safely by providing clear architectural principles, reference designs, and practical, hands-on guidance. Technical Vision & Strategy: Define and communicate the long-term technology strategy, architecture roadmap, and core principles. Ensure this vision is practical, well-understood, and actively guides day-to-day engineering decisions. Hands-on Domain Partnership: Lead and mentor a lean team of solution architects. Ensure this team is deeply embedded within the platform verticals, acting as hands-on partners to solve their most complex technical challenges. Architectural Governance: Establish and run a pragmatic, lightweight governance process (e.g., technical design reviews, standards body) to ensure consistency, quality, and alignment across all platforms without creating bureaucracy. Technical Health & Quality: Accountable for the non-functional health of our platforms. Drive initiatives to improve scalability and performance, ensure security is designed in (in partnership with Tech Enablement), and manage the strategic reduction of technical debt. Innovation & Research: Act as the lead technical expert for the business. Continuously evaluate emerging technologies, patterns, and trends, and champion their adoption where they create tangible business value. Group Collaboration & Alignment: Partner with architecture counterparts across the wider Woolworths Group to ensure our technical strategy is aligned, leverage existing group capabilities, and contribute our expertise back to the broader community. What You’ll Bring Proven experience as a senior technology leader (e.g., Head of Architecture, Principal Architect) in a modern, product-led technology organisation. A strong "hands-on" background, with a history as a distinguished or principal-level engineer. Must be comfortable and credible in deep-dive technical design sessions and code reviews. Demonstrable experience defining a long-term technology strategy and successfully guiding teams to execute against it. Experience establishing and running lightweight, effective architectural governance in an Agile, domain-driven environment. Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with a proven ability to earn the respect of engineers through to senior executives, and non-technical stakeholders. Strong environmental radar to navigate a highly complex enterprise and stakeholder landscape. Expert-level, polyglot technical skills with deep knowledge of system design, cloud-native architecture (GCP/AWS), and container orchestration (Kubernetes). Deep expertise in at least one of our core domains: data & audience platforms, marketing/advertising technology (MadTech), or digital experience platforms - ideally multiple. Strong understanding of event-driven architectures, microservices, API design, data modelling, and security-by-design principles. Pragmatic, not dogmatic. Must be focused on finding the simplest, most effective solution that delivers business value. Highly desirable - Deep understanding of the media industry and the technologies that exist within. What You’ll Experience We embrace diversity of thought and love to take on challenges with a pragmatic and innovative approach. Our culture thrives on mutual respect, care, curiosity, openness, and a proactive attitude. We continually seek ways to pair, collaborate, support, and learn from each other as a team!
