Based at our Geelong, Waurn Ponds Campus Full-time and fixed-term until 2/10/2026 HEW 6 $96,276 - $103,971 17% Superannuation About the role: The Senior Technical Officer supports the effective delivery of practical teaching research and associated administrative activities. The role provides specialist technical expertise to academic staff and students, including supporting practical classes, research activities, complex experiment design, equipment preparation and maintenance, laboratory safety, and accurate documentation. While primarily aligned with microbiological, molecular, and cell science disciplines, the role also supports other areas as needed and liaises with internal teams and external suppliers to coordinate teaching and research support. As a Senior Technical Officer, you will: Provide day-to-day management of laboratories and teaching spaces. Collaborates with academic staff to proactively support teaching by providing specialist knowledge and training in the use of discipline-specific equipment, software, and laboratory materials. Support the development and delivery of project work, practicals, and other teaching activities in the Molecular Biology and biochemistry. Manage and support the teaching and learning and research facilities of Molecular Biology and biochemistry programs. Prepare equipment and ensure all procedures and practices are up-to-date primarily in the Molecular Biology area. Develop, propose, coordinate and implement technical solutions to support the strategic initiatives and operations of the school. To be successful, you’ll have: A Bachelor degree in Science with a major in Molecular Biology with subsequent relevant experience; or Extensive experience and specialist knowledge or broad knowledge in technical fields; or An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. Experience working in a related field or discipline in higher education or a similar large complex environment. Good knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety principles and an understanding of the requirements for safety when working with biological and chemical hazards Ability to work with and train research staff and students.
