Brisbane-based defence contractor delivering avionics integration for rotary wing and autonomous platforms is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to support active integration programs. This is a hands-on systems engineering role, working directly with design engineers, integration labs, test teams, and prime contractors on real platforms. This opportunity suits a systems engineer who wants genuine technical engagement: reviewing avionics architectures with design teams, resolving interface issues in integration environments, supporting commissioning activities on operational platforms, and solving real engineering problems rather than managing document registers. The Role You will support avionics and mission systems integration across defence programs, working through requirements, interfaces, verification, and certification for rotary wing and autonomous platforms. You will own systems engineering delivery for assigned programs, acting as the technical point of accountability across requirements decomposition, subsystem interface management (communications, navigation, sensors, mission processors), verification planning, and certification activities. The role involves conducting technical trade studies, developing verification approaches, and working directly with test engineers during integration and proving. You will engage with prime contractors, capability managers, and certification authorities to progress technical solutions through design, integration, and certification phases. This is systems engineering with direct technical involvement. You will contribute in design reviews discussing actual architectures, work within integration facilities troubleshooting interface issues, and collaborate with certification authorities on compliance evidence. To Be Considered 5 years’ experience in systems engineering across defence, aerospace, or complex integrated platforms Strong technical grounding in avionics, mission systems, or aircraft integration Proven systems engineering capability including requirements decomposition, interface management, and verification planning Experience engaging with defence customers, prime contractors, or certification bodies Ability to work across disciplines and communicate effectively with RF, software, and mechanical engineering teams Pragmatic engineering mindset with a focus on outcomes and collaborative problem-solving Australian citizenship required with ability to obtain Baseline or NV1 clearance Experience with aircraft certification standards (MIL-STD-882, DO-160), systems engineering tools such as DOORS, JIRA, and SysML or MBSE environments, or exposure to autonomous systems is desirable.
