The Role As a Product Designer, you will work closely with the Product Manager and cross-functional teams to create innovative, functional, and manufacturable window and door designs. You’ll be involved across the full product lifecycle from concept and detailed design through prototyping, testing and commercialisation. This is a hands-on technical role suited to someone who enjoys combining design creativity with engineering discipline, problem-solving and collaboration. Your work will directly contribute to product performance, customer satisfaction and manufacturing efficiency. Key Responsibilities • Design and develop innovative window and door products that meet functional, aesthetic and performance requirements. • Produce detailed CAD drawings, 3D models, technical documentation and specifications for prototyping and manufacture. • Ensure all designs comply with Australian Standards, building codes and G. James quality requirements. • Support product prototyping and testing activities, including wind & water, acoustics, cycle testing, security and energy performance. • Analyse test results and implement design improvements. • Optimise designs for manufacturability, cost-effectiveness and production efficiency. • Support the Product Manager through product commercialisation and launch activities. • Collaborate with manufacturing, procurement, sales and marketing teams to maintain design intent. • Contribute to continuous improvement of existing products based on market feedback and technical advancements. • Maintain accurate and up-to-date design documentation and records. • Promote and uphold strong health and safety practices. About You You are a detail-oriented and technically capable designer who enjoys working in a structured product development environment. You combine strong CAD and engineering skills with a practical understanding of manufacturing and testing, and you communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. What You’ll Bring • Experience in product design within manufacturing, construction or building products (windows and doors highly regarded). • Strong proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, Inventor and 3D modelling tools. • Knowledge of aluminium extrusion processes, glazing systems and hardware design. • Understanding of Australian Standards relevant to windows and doors (e.g. AS2047). • Ability to create accurate technical drawings, specifications and tolerances. • Experience supporting prototyping, testing and product validation activities. • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. • Effective communication and collaboration skills. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and design/documentation systems. • Qualifications in industrial design, engineering or a related discipline (preferred).
