Location: Brookvale, NSW Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent Hours: 38 hours per week Salary: $125,000 – $130,000 per annum (plus superannuation) Company Overview Roobuck is a leading Australian provider of mining IoT solutions, intrinsically safe lighting equipment, and digital mine technologies. We specialise in developing cutting-edge wireless solutions for underground and open-cut mining operations, with a strong focus on enhancing miner safety and operational productivity. Role Overview We are seeking an experienced Electronics Engineer (Mid-Level to Senior) to join our team and lead the design, development, and optimisation of IoT devices for mining equipment. This role focuses on creating explosion-proof and intrinsically safe electronics that comply with stringent mining safety standards. You will be involved in end-to-end product development—from concept through to production—ensuring high performance in regulated, hazardous environments. Key Responsibilities • Design and optimise electronic systems, circuits, and embedded software for industrial control, monitoring, and communication applications in mining equipment. • Develop and execute comprehensive testing, validation, and diagnostic procedures to ensure system performance, safety, and regulatory compliance. • Design and evaluate wired, fibre-optic, and wireless communication solutions (including LoRa, UWB, LTE, WiFi/BLE), analysing traffic, capacity, and coverage requirements for underground and surface deployments. • Create schematics and PCBs using Altium Designer (highly preferred). • Develop test firmware using Python, C, and C++, and prepare detailed hardware documentation for the firmware team. • Assist certification engineers with radio and hazardous area certifications, including CE, FCC, RCM, and especially IECEx (highly recommended for mining applications). • Work with microcontrollers (e.g., STM32, nRF, ESP32) and other embedded platforms for RF/IoT system integration. • Collaborate with R&D teams, researchers, and cross-functional engineers to transition designs from prototype to full production, incorporating design-for-manufacture (DFM) principles and global certification requirements. Requirements Requirements • 3 years of experience in electronics engineering product development, with direct exposure to mining devices or similarly regulated industries (e.g., oil & gas, hazardous environments). • Strong understanding and hands-on experience with certifications such as CE, FCC, RCM, and IECEx (highly recommended; experience in intrinsically safe/explosion-proof design for mining is a major advantage). • Proven track record in high-speed analog and mixed-signal circuit design, including SOMs (System-on-Module) and IoT motherboards. • R&D experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams of researchers and engineers. • Extensive hands-on experience with laboratory equipment, including signal generators, network analysers, spectrum analysers, oscilloscopes, and antenna test chambers. • Demonstrated success transitioning designs from prototype to production, including design-for-manufacture (DFM) and global product certification processes. • Practical experience with RF technologies such as LoRa, UWB, LTE, WiFi, and BLE, ideally in industrial or mining contexts. • Proficiency in embedded systems programming (C/C++) and scripting (Python). • Bachelor’s degree in electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related field.
