Key Responsibilities As a Motor Mechanic at Star Motorworks Pty Ltd, your role will include duties: Diagnose faults in engines, transmissions, steering, suspension, brakes, and electrical systems. Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, gearboxes, steering mechanisms, and other components for inspection. Repair and replace worn or defective parts using appropriate tools and techniques. Reassemble mechanical components and test systems to ensure proper functioning. Perform scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, filter replacements, and safety checks. Conduct roadworthy inspections and prepare reports on vehicle condition. Use diagnostic equipment and service manuals to identify and resolve mechanical and electrical issues. Adjust, tune, and test engines to maintain performance and efficiency. Maintain service records and communicate clearly with customers about required repairs and costs. Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards in all repair and maintenance work. What We’re Looking For Minimum 1 year of experience working as a motor mechanic in a busy workshop, fleet or transport environment. Trade certificate (e.g., Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology) or equivalent qualification in automotive/mechanical servicing. Strong understanding of vehicle mechanical systems, diagnostics, fault-finding and repair processes. Excellent communication and teamwork skills, able to liaise with drivers, operations staff and suppliers. Comfortable working to production demands and prioritising tasks to minimise vehicle downtime. Valid Australian driver’s license and own tools preferred. Desirable Attributes Previous experience working in established automotive service centres, dealerships, or fleet maintenance environments, handling a wide range of vehicles and repair operations. Strong background in diagnosing complex mechanical and electrical faults, with proven ability to implement effective repair solutions. Ability to lead or supervise small workshop teams, providing guidance and mentoring to apprentices or junior mechanics. Experience in preparing vehicle condition reports, service documentation, and compliance records for management visibility and regulatory requirements. Knowledge of emerging automotive technologies, including electronic fuel injection systems, hybrid/electric vehicle servicing, and advanced diagnostic techniques.
