The role We’re seeking an experienced Chemistry Manager to lead our Food & Pharmaceutical Chemistry team. Based at our Scoresby site and reporting to the GM Food & Pharmaceutical ANZ, you’ll oversee daily laboratory operations, drive performance, develop your people, and ensure world-class quality, safety, and client service. The day to day In this role, you’ll: • Lead and mentor a team of laboratory professionals • Set clear direction and foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture • Manage daily lab operations and ensure optimal allocation of resources • Oversee quality and compliance, maintaining ISO 17025, NATA, and TGA standards • Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and increase throughput • Establish, monitor, and report on KPIs for quality, turnaround time, and operational efficiency • Ensure timely, accurate delivery of all client samples and results • Monitor financial performance, manage budgets, and identify cost-saving opportunities • Oversee procurement, inventory, and laboratory equipment management • Engage with clients to resolve queries, support complaints, and improve customer experience • Drive safety culture, environmental responsibility, and sustainability initiatives • Support professional development, coaching, and performance management for your team • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and laboratory innovation The essentials We’re looking for a respected laboratory leader who brings: • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Food Science, or related field • 7 years’ experience in analytical testing laboratories • 3 years’ experience managing or leading lab teams • Strong knowledge of ISO 17025, NATA and FSANZ requirements • Proven ability to optimise workflow and drive improvements • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills • Experience with LIMS and digital laboratory systems Working at ALS The ALS team is a diverse and dedicated community united by our passion to make a difference in the world.
