Senior Building Inspector Building Commission NSW, Building Operations, Compliance team Grade : Clerk Grade 7/8 Term: Multiple temporary and Ongoing opportunities Location: Parramatta, Newcastle (or Port Macquarie), Wollongong This role sits within the Building Commission NSW Division in the Building Operations, Compliance team About the Building Commission NSW The new Building Commission NSW has been established after the NSW Government recognised the substantial progress made by Fair Trading and the Office of the Building Commissioner in delivering once-in-a-generation reforms of the building and construction industry. The new commission will not only be the industry regulator, but also a collaborator with consumers and industry to ensure standards, capabilities, capacity and resilience continue to be lifted across the sector to deliver quality homes and meet the state’s housing targets. Your day-to-day Undertake inspection and compliance activities. Coordinate proactive and targeted inspection operations applying effective risk management strategies. Undertake complex mediations and dispute resolution in line with legislation, regulations and policies. Prepare, present and review evidence, reports and submissions to make appropriate recommendations. Develop and maintain specialist regulatory knowledge and skills, act as a resource for managers and team members and effectively contribute to ongoing development needs of the Department’s regulatory role. Provide advice regarding significant developments, critical milestones and identification of options. Provide information and advice to industry, businesses and citizens regarding their rights and responsibilities in relation to relevant legislation. Effectively maintain statistical data, records and outcomes and provide timely and accurate reporting of compliance activities undertaken. Contribute to the development, mentoring and coaching to team members, maintaining a culture of teamwork, achievement, accountability and outcome focus. About you Are you highly organised and passionate about your work? Do you have a Certificate IV in Government (Investigations) or willingness to complete one? Do you have a current NSW Drivers License? Are you happy and willing to travel throughout the state when required? Do you currently hold, or are you eligible to obtain, a Builder Licence or a Qualified Supervisor Certificate? To be successful in this role you will demonstrate: Demonstrated experience supervising residential building work across multiple trades, with a strong focus on Class 1 construction Strong oral and written communication skills including preparation of technical reports. Excellent knowledge of the National Construction Code and Building Code of Australia Demonstrated ability to manage a caseload in a high-volume work environment while working unsupervised and managing the expectations of customers and traders. Willingness to travel regionally throughout NSW when required Essential Criteria It is essential that you hold a current NSW Drivers License You must hold a Builder Licence or Qualified Supervisor Certificate, or be eligible to obtain one to be successful in this role.
