The Environmental Quality Team is one of four teams within EPA and comprises specialists to deliver a range of environment protection matters including environmental planning, air quality, hazardous materials, contaminated sites, waste management, and the use of agricultural, veterinary, and industrial chemicals. The team is responsible for administering and ensuring compliance with the Environment Protection Act and Regulation, focusing on environmental authorisations, reviews, planning referral input, and inspections to deter people causing negative impacts on the environment. Team members participate in local and national initiatives and working groups related to their areas of expertise and implement National Environmental Protection Measures and National Environmental Management Plans within the Territory. Applications are invited to fill the full-time, temporary vacancy for up to 12 months with the possibility of extension for the role of Director, Strategic Regulation - Environmental Quality available as soon as possible. This position will play a pivotal role within EPA by strategically managing environmental planning, protection, and regulatory enforcement on critical cross-Government projects. In addition to coordinating consideration of environmental authorisations and agreements, a central function to this role will be collaboration across intergovernmental agencies to deliver integrated and forward-thinking solutions. As a senior leader within EPA, this role is responsible for guiding and empowering staff to apply regulatory outcomes consistent with the Access Canberra Compliance Framework, building a culture of continuous improvements and fostering strong relationships with key stakeholders.
