Our team You will be part of Geoscience Australia's National Location Information Branch which is responsible for ensuring Australia's national location information is accessible, trusted, reliable, interoperable, relevant and sustainably managed. The Branch plays a leading role in shaping the future of Australia's geospatial landscape and is leading the development and delivery of the Digital Atlas of Australia, a national geospatial capability we're delivering on behalf of the Australian Government. The Digital Atlas of Australia brings together, curates and connects trusted national datasets from across government into an interactive, secure and easy-to-use online platform. it's transforming the way data on Australia's geography, people, economy and environment Is accessed and used to inform smarter, faster place-based decisions for Australia's future. The key duties of the position include The role The Geospatial Officer delivers high-quality spatial data and interactive applications that enable users to explore and understand Australia's geography, environment, and communities through the Digital Atlas of Australia platform. This role works under guidance and supervision from senior team members, providing an opportunity to build capability and confidence in geospatial data management and Esri-based app development. In this role you will: Prepare, curate, and publish spatial datasets and metadata for the Digital Atlas platform. Manage GIS database tasks, including data acquisition, cleaning, and integration. Build interactive web apps and dashboards using Esri tools such as ArcGIS Experience Builder and StoryMaps. Develop and automate workflows using tools like FME and Python to improve efficiency. Apply data management standards and processes to ensure compliance and interoperability. Collaborate with data custodians and internal teams to ensure content accuracy and alignment with national standards. Apply foundational GIS analysis and visualisation techniques to support decision-making and enhance user experience. Document processes and maintain best practices for data management, publication, and accessibility. To be successful in the role you will: Demonstrate attention to detail and problem-solving skills, following established processes and contributing to improvements. Possess strong time management and organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines. Show a collaborative approach and clear communication skills, enabling you to work effectively within a team environment. Required skills, knowledge, experience and/or qualifications Tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in Geographic Information Systems, Spatial Science, or a related discipline. Minimum 2 years' experience in geospatial data management and/or web mapping application development, including familiarity with Esri GIS tools. Willingness to learn and apply data integration and workflow automation techniques (experience with FME or Python desirable). Ability to perform spatial analysis and visualisation tasks under guidance, contributing to decision-making and user experience improvements. Strong attention to detail and organisational skills, with the ability to follow established processes and meet deadlines.
