Our team You will be part of Geoscience Australia's National Location Information Branch which is responsible for ensuring Australia's national location information is accessible, trusted, reliable, interoperable, relevant and sustainably managed. The Branch plays a leading role in shaping the future of Australia's geospatial landscape and is leading the development and delivery of the Digital Atlas of Australia, a national geospatial capability we're delivering on behalf of the Australian Government. The Digital Atlas of Australia brings together, curates and connects trusted national datasets from across government into an interactive, secure and easy-to-use online platform. it's transforming the way data on Australia's geography, people, economy and environment Is accessed and used to inform smarter, faster place-based decisions for Australia's future. The key duties of the position include The role As a Geospatial Systems Officer on the Digital Atlas of Australia team, you will work support the administration and maintenance of GIS systems across a national geospatial infrastructure. You will ensure secure access, system integrity and effective user and issue management. In this role you will: Manage user accounts and access controls, including account creation, permission updates, and deactivation of inactive users, to maintain secure and appropriate access across Digital Atlas environments. Monitor user activity and enforce access policies to protect sensitive content and ensure compliance with government standards. Assist with backup procedures, software updates, and patch testing to maintain system performance and minimize disruption. Provide technical support and troubleshooting for GIS environments, ensuring continuity of operations and timely issue resolution. Maintain comprehensive documentation to support knowledge sharing and operational consistency. Coordinate communications related to user accounts, access requests, and issue resolution, collaborating with senior administrators and technical teams as required. Collaborate with senior administrators and technical teams to implement changes, resolve issues, and support priority requests across environments. To be successful in the role you will: Demonstrate strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining system integrity and security. Communicate effectively with users and team members, providing clear guidance and support for technical issues. Show initiative and adaptability in responding to evolving requirements and supporting operational improvements. Required skills, knowledge, experience and/or qualifications Tertiary qualification or relevant experience in Geographic Information Systems, Computing Science or a related discipline. Proven skills in monitoring system integrity, executing backups, applying software updates and troubleshooting technical issues to maintain reliable and secure GIS operations. Experience producing clear, comprehensive documentation and communicating effectively with diverse stakeholders to support knowledge sharing and operational consistency.
