Little Zak's Academy is seeking a Cook/Chef to prepare warm & nutritional meals using rotational menus for the children in our care at one of our Sydney Services. Role Purpose The Childcare Chef is responsible for planning, preparing, and delivering nutritious, safe, and age-appropriate meals for children, in line with dietary requirements, allergy management plans, food safety standards, and regulatory requirements. The role supports children’s health, wellbeing, and positive food experiences within an early learning environment. Key Responsibilities Food Preparation & Meal Service Prepare and serve morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea , and any other required meals/snacks. Ensure meals are nutritious, balanced, and age-appropriate , aligned with relevant dietary guidelines. Accommodate individual dietary requirements , cultural needs, and medical needs. Allergy & Dietary Management Follow all allergy and medical management plans strictly at all times. Prevent cross-contamination through correct food handling, storage, and preparation practices. Clearly label foods and communicate with educators regarding children’s dietary needs. Food Safety & Compliance Maintain a clean, hygienic kitchen that meets food safety standards and service policies. Complete required compliance checks , food safety logs, temperature records, and documentation. Ensure safe food storage, correct temperatures, and stock rotation (FIFO). Menu Planning & Shopping Assist with or complete menu planning in consultation with the Centre Director, considering children’s needs and seasonal produce. Undertake food shopping and ordering , staying within budget guidelines. Monitor stock levels and minimise food waste. Cleaning & Maintenance Complete weekly kitchen cleaning tasks in line with cleaning schedules. Ensure daily cleaning of kitchen surfaces, equipment, and utensils. Report maintenance issues or equipment faults promptly. Collaboration & Communication Work collaboratively with educators and management to support children’s wellbeing. Communicate clearly regarding menu changes, allergies, or supply issues. Model positive attitudes towards healthy eating. Health, Safety & Professional Responsibilities Follow all WHS policies and procedures . Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times. Participate in training related to food safety, allergies, and compliance as required. Qualifications & Requirements Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (or willingness to obtain). Knowledge of allergy management in an ECE setting. Understanding of food hygiene and safe food handling practices. Current Working With Children Check. Desirable Skills Experience working as a chef or cook in a childcare or similar setting. Strong organisational and time-management skills.
