About the Branch The Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) Scheme offers landholders, communities and businesses the opportunity to run projects in Australia that avoid the release of greenhouse gas emissions or remove and sequester carbon from the atmosphere. The Soil, Emissions Avoidance and Contracts (SEAC) Branch supports the administration of projects that sequester carbon in agricultural soils and coastal wetlands and reduce the emissions from savanna fires and in the agricultural, industrial, waste and energy sectors. The Branch also manages the Australian Government's carbon abatement contract portfolio and provides advice on scheme-wide policy issues. About the Section The Waste and Energy Assessments Section is responsible for administering elements of the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative) Act 2011 and associated legislative instruments. The section assesses Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) applications for project registration and crediting for emissions reductions in the waste, industry, energy and transport sectors. The section plays a key role in liaising with clients and stakeholders by providing subject matter expertise and knowledge-transfer on its relevant ACCU methods. Team members deliver continuous improvement of project assessments through regular review and critical analysis of assessment tools, processes, forms and guidance published on the websites. Team members proactively engage with clients to resolve enquiries, develop web guidance and undertake education during face-to-face visits with project participants. The key duties of the position include Review applications to ensure compliance with legislative criteria. In some instances, make delegated decisions about issuing Australian Carbon Credit Units. Develop and manage key strategic relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to promote the Agency business objectives, manage change and resolve conflicts. Respond to complex stakeholder enquiries about new and unique project circumstances. Develop risk management, strategic planning and decision-making processes. Develop policy, procedures, guidelines and technical improvements that can be applied to situations involving considerable complexity and risk. Develop guidance and training materials for internal and external use. Supervise a number of staff and lead a sub-team. Knowledge, Skills and Attributes We are seeking a wide range of skills and experience in the various roles to complement our multidisciplinary team. Our ideal candidate will demonstrate: Experience in leading a team who are organised and adaptable to change, including the ability to multi-task and prioritise. Qualifications and/or work experience in environmental science and engineering are desirable, but not essential. Prior experience, qualifications or understanding of legislation or regulation, policy; program; carbon accounting frameworks; economics; project or financial management or data analytics would be an advantage.
