Mountain Gate Indian and Nepalese Restaurant – Ferntree Gully, VIC Mountain Gate Indian and Nepalese Restaurant Pty Ltd, located in Ferntree Gully (Victoria), is seeking a qualified Full Time Chef to join our friendly and professional team. We are a busy Indian and Nepalese restaurant, so we are looking for someone who is creative, organised and passionate about food , with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced kitchen environment. Position Details Position: Full Time Chef Location: Ferntree Gully, VIC Salary:$76,000 – $80,000 superannuation per annum Key Responsibilities Plan, develop and cost menus for regular service, functions and special events. Design and prepare menus that take into account special dietary requirements (e.g. vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, allergies and other dietary needs). Prepare, cook and present a wide range of: Entrées, main courses and desserts; and Appetisers, curries, tandoori items, rice dishes, breads and sweets from Indian and Nepalese cuisine . Analyse food and labour costs and assist in managing food cost, portion control, wastage and stock levels. Supervise and coordinate kitchen operations , including directing and training kitchen staff and apprentices in cooking, preparation and presentation techniques. Create and manage preparation lists (prep sheets) for the kitchen crew to ensure smooth and timely service. Order, receive, check, store and rotate stock , ensuring correct storage, stock rotation and minimisation of wastage. Monitor and ensure quality, consistency and presentation of all dishes leaving the kitchen. Maintain a clean, safe and hygienic kitchen environment , ensuring compliance with: Food safety standards; Workplace hygiene requirements; and Occupational health and safety (OH&S) regulations and procedures. Assist in menu development for catering and events ; prior catering/banqueting experience will be highly regarded. Skills & Experience To be successful in this role, you must have: Relevant cookery/culinary qualifications (or equivalent). Minimum 1 year experience working in a commercial kitchen (experience with Indian and/or Nepalese cuisine highly regarded). Flexible availability , including evenings, weekends and public holidays as required. Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a team. Proven ability to work under pressure while maintaining high standards of quality, consistency and presentation. Ability to work both unsupervised and as part of a team . Sound understanding of OH&S and food safety standards and the ability to implement them on a daily basis. Strong organisational and time-management skills . Experience in catering and function service will be considered an advantage.
