Who we are Victorian Indigenous Nurseries Co-operative (VINC) is a not-for-profit production/retail plant nursery. We produce indigenous flora in forestry tubes and Hiko cells for bushland revegetation. We grow more than 220 species from material collected within Melbourne’s northern plains, northeast foothills and the inner Yarra Valley. Annually, we supply 420,000 plants to local councils, environmental management agencies, community groups, schools, trade customers and the public. We became a charity in late 2023 to facilitate the VINC Environment Fund. We hope to expand our operations in the near future. About the role The Nursery Assistant primarily facilitates movement, maintenance and dispatch of genetically diverse, containerised plants within the nursery under the guidance of senior co-workers. They frequently work with volunteers. Work occurs predominantly outdoors. There will likely be scope to increase hours as the nursery expands in the coming 12-18 months Main Duties Grade and consolidate young greenhouse plants and transfer to outdoor growing areas Stock maintenance in form of weeding, pruning, fertilizing and pest control Picking of plant orders specific to customer requirements, ensuring healthy stock supply Monitoring and reporting on plant health Regulate plant growing conditions (irrigation, ventilation, temperature etc) Update computer and other records related to primary duties Occasionally assist any trade customers with plant orders or selection To carry out other nursery-related duties including vehicle delivery of plants Key Skills, Experience and Requirements Horticultural qualifications. Conservation & Land Management qualification an advantage Established production nursery experience. Environmental field experience an advantage Sound knowledge and genuine passion of plants indigenous to the nursery's supply region Effective communication, efficiency and observation skills Physical ability (should be able to lift and carry 15 kg weight) Skill with computers and related technology Current Victorian Drivers Licence (manual preferred) and good driving record First Aid training (level 2 equivalent preferred) Benefits VINC is an established and well-regarded plant nursery of indigenous plants within the environmental industry.
