Position: Chef Employment Type: Full-time Salary: $75,000 - $77,000 per annum Location: Calypso Inn Pty Ltd- Cairns North Position Overview Cock & Bull Restaurant is seeking an experienced and passionate Chef to join their kitchen team. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing high-quality dishes, maintaining food safety standards, and contributing to menu development while leading and mentoring kitchen staff. Key Responsibilities Food Preparation & Quality Control Produce and maintain high standards of food preparation and presentation Prepare dishes according to menu specifications and recipes, ensuring correct portions are served to customers as per restaurant standards Ensure menus, food standards, procedures and processes are consistently followed Ensure all meals are prepared according to hygiene standards and served to customers in a timely manner Monitor the quality of raw ingredients and cooked food Maintain high standards of presentation and behavior throughout the kitchen and ensure a clean, organized work environment Menu Development & Costing Assist Head Chef in menu design and amendments, including pricing and dish selection Plan and develop seasonal specials Cost menu items, including food and labor costs Analyze and estimate pricing for food and human resources Stock & Inventory Management Manage stock inventory and order high-quality raw materials Ensure food is stored in temperature-controlled facilities according to food safety standards Health, Safety & Compliance Ensure staff always adhere to occupational health and safety measures Follow all workplace hygiene procedures and regulations Ensure kitchen equipment is properly maintained Team Leadership & Development Recruit, train and mentor kitchen staff and apprentices Create a positive working environment Develop collaborative relationships with owners and leadership to provide quality food and prompt service to regular customers Qualifications & Requirements Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification Minimum 2 years of experience working as a Chef in a commercial kitchen Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards Proven ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment Excellent communication and leadership skills Strong organizational and time management abilities Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays Current knowledge of culinary trends and techniques Desirable Skills Experience in menu development and costing Knowledge of inventory management systems Training and mentoring experience Understanding of dietary requirements and allergen management What We Offer Competitive salary of $75,000 - $77,000 per annum Opportunities for professional development Supportive team environment To apply, please submit your resume and a cover letter addressing the skills and experience required for this role.
