An Southern TAS hospital requires a Registered Nurse/RN in Mental Health from 09/12/2025 to 06/03/2026. Brief Role Description This role requires the agency nurse to: • Work in conjunction with unit staff, the MHSSU, the Royal Hobart Hospital Emergency Department (ED), Alcohol and Drug Services and Community Mental Health Services to deliver improved outcomes for MHSSU clients and individuals presenting to the ED with mental illness and requiring specialist assessment. • Is a clinical expert who acts as a specialist resource for nursing, medical and allied health staff involved in the management of patients with mental health concerns, including those with concurrent alcohol or drug use issues. • Provide discipline specific clinical expertise, supportive advice and clinical care to clients of the MHSSU based on best practice principles and legal and professional requirements. • Using specialist assessment and screening tools, deliver improved outcomes for patients presenting to ED with mental health concerns and/or addiction-related comorbidities. • Provide treatment recommendations and specialist support to relevant medical, nursing and allied health staff and directly contribute to clinical decision making, and planning, implementation and evaluation of care. • Facilitate access to a range of appropriate community and inpatient services to ensure patients receive the right support in the right place and at the right time, including the provision of comprehensive handovers and the coordination of quality and safe transfer/discharge processes. • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with a range of key internal and external stakeholders, including the Emergency Department, Child and Adolescent/Adult and Older Persons Mental Health Services, Inpatient Mental Health Services, Alcohol and Drug services, Forensic Mental Health Services and the community sector. • Deliver ongoing education, guidance and support for nursing and medical staff within the MHSSU in relation to mental health and the management of comorbidity, including legislation pertaining to seclusion and restraint. • Undertake the role of a Mental Health Officer in accordance with the Mental Health Act 2013. • Ensure ongoing assessment and evaluation of the role and associated guidelines, clinical pathways, protocols and policies, incorporating evidenced based practice and other regulatory bodies or key stakeholders as required. Essential Requirements • Experience in high dependency and acute settings. • Mental Health nursing experience and Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse. • Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 5 • Working with Vulnerable People registration. • Current Australian Driver’s Licence Locum Period 9.12.25 to 6.3.26 Service Mental Health Services Please complete the form below and attach your CV.
