About the opportunity The Safety Analyst role forms part of the Safety, Risk, and Intelligence Branch. It requires high levels of autonomy, judgement, and initiative to undertake analytical tasks that contribute towards CASA's evidence-based decision-making processes. The Safety Analyst reports to the Section Manager Safety Intelligence & Analysis and is responsible for analysing and converting data into valuable intelligence. The role will be required to conduct analytical tasks, produce in-depth reports, and provide key insights using contemporary analytical tools. The successful candidate will have the ability to demonstrate their analytical skills based on rich and diverse aviation related data collected through various avenues. Key Responsibilities The Safety Analyst is responsible for the following deliverables, which represent an ongoing body of work: • Perform complex data analysis tasks conducted to identify potential safety issues based on discovered data trends, patterns, themes, and emerging risks. • Prepare papers, briefings and reports incorporating statistical techniques, methods and/or models to discover notable relationships or significant changes in safety data from a variety of sources through contemporary analytical tools. • Design, develop and publish self-serve reports and dashboards using data visualization tools such as Power BI for regular business area consumption. • Produce and deliver presentations to share and communicate analytical findings to a variety of internal or external stakeholders at forums, meetings, or conferences. • Communicate and make balanced recommendations using professional judgement, evaluating ambiguous and incomplete information, factoring in risks and being sensitive to the context. • Engage, liaise and work proactively with internal and external stakeholders to collect, analyse and share safety data and information. • Propose and facilitate innovative initiatives that contribute to improve analytical processes, methods, and tools to increase efficiency, accuracy, and data quality. • Lead, manage, and coordinate key projects, research tasks and team deliverables. • Review analytical briefs, research papers, self-serve reports and associated code used for extraction/analysis, with the ability to provide validation and constructive feedback. • Promote workplace safety, equity and diversity, participative management and environmental management in the workplace and act in accordance with the CASA values and behaviours. • Work supportively and cooperatively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to achieve shared outcomes. • Other duties as required. Our ideal candidate for this role will have: • Proficient analysis skills with the ability to explore data patterns and trends to identify aviation safety issues and make effective findings using statistical methods & critical thinking abilities. • Strong problem-solving skills including the ability to manipulate and manage data to inform effective decision making. • Knowledge and experience in the use and application of contemporary analytical tools and programming languages (eg Power BI, SQL, R, Python). • Demonstrated experience in conducting detailed analysis through technical skills and stakeholder engagement relationships. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present data and information effectively in a complex technical environment and to a broad audience. • Demonstrated experience in managing deadlines and working cooperatively with a broad range of stakeholders. •Tertiary or similar qualifications in data analytics, data science, statistics, mathematics, or other relevant fields.
