Guide Dogs WA and Guide Dogs Tasmania – our iconic service raising and training life changing assistance dogs. Kites Children’s Therapy – our early intervention support, advice and solutions service transforming the lives of children and their families living with disability or developmental challenges. Description We are seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from qualified and passionate individuals who are interested in joining our Dog Services teams in Western Australia. Assistance Dog Instructors You will play a key role in delivering Assistance Dogs Services to clients alongside ensuring a consistent supply of high-quality Assistance Dogs to support our programs (Autism, PTSD, and Facility). You will assess, train and monitor dogs to meet Assistance Dogs International (ADI) and organisational standards. You will evaluate dogs’ suitability, test their responses in various environments including home assessments and develop tailored, measurable training plans to build guiding and assistance skills within required timeframes. These physically demanding and hands-on roles involve identifying and addressing behavioural or health issues, supporting veterinary treatment plans, maintaining accurate documentation and regularly reviewing each dog’s progress. Working collaboratively with internal teams, you will also contribute to fundraising and public relations activities, acting as a positive ambassador for Guide Dogs while supporting the organisation’s strategic direction. Guide Dog Mobility Instructors/Trainers Our Guide Dog Mobility Instructors, play a vital role in empowering people with vision loss by training exceptional guide dogs and delivering personalised client support that enhances independence and confidence. Working to International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF)standards, you will assess and train dogs using structured programs and clear communication techniques, address behavioural needs and ensure their ongoing wellbeing. You will collaborate with a supportive team to match dogs with clients, develop and deliver tailored training programs in-centre and in-home, manage a client caseload supporting follow up and aftercare visits, ensuring accurate and timely documentation. Provide supervision and support to cadets and new staff and provide information on the guide dog program to all stakeholders. As a Guide Dog Trainer you will assess if dogs are suitable to progress onto formal training, review individual characteristics to determine appropriate training methodology and design an efficient and measurable training plan to prepare dogs within appropriate timeframes and at IGDF and organisational standards. Provide support to cadets and new staff, working with departmental teams and volunteers to build positive and productive relationships. Skills And Experiences Essential Skills and Attributes: Recognised qualification from Assistance Dogs International (ADI) and/or International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF) Knowledge and experience in the respective fields Strong understanding of Autism and family-centred practice. Proven ability to assess and respond to dog behaviour. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. High level of organisation, planning, and stress management. Ability to manage the physical demands and inherent requirements of the job Strong teamwork ethic and ability to work independently.
