The opportunity:As a Senior Extension Officer (Beef), you will:- Negotiate, lead, report and undertake activities as DPI coordinator for the statewide Advancing Beef Leaders (ABL) program. Coordinate the northern ABL peer group, collaborating with private and DPI specialists, meeting the needs of participants on a day-to-day basis.- Negotiate, lead, report and undertake beef extension activities as northern coordinator for the GrazingFutures Prepare and Prosper project (phase two of GrazingFutures Livestock Business Resilience (https://futurebeef.com.au/)) in north Queensland to enhance the profitability, productivity, competitiveness and environmental sustainability of Queensland's extensive beef industries.- Work with producers to identify, evaluate and implement strategies, including the use of technology to increase business profitability and improve land management outcomes.- Build knowledge and skills in staff for the effective research, demonstration and extension of options to evaluate and demonstrate industry sustainability.- Build and maintain effective collaborative partnerships within DPI, across government, producers and industry: e.g. Meat and Livestock Australia, Natural Resource Management bodies, Rural Financial Counselling Services, AgForce, universities and other stakeholders across the state and nationally. What are we looking for?There are some qualifications that we see as essential. You must possess:- An Australian Bachelor's degree (AQF level 7 or equivalent) or higher in Animal, Agricultural or Environmental Science from a recognised tertiary institution. Postgraduate qualification in a science field is desirable. You may also have:- Experience and an understanding of the beef industry in Queensland and/or northern Australia.- Experience in extension work. This role includes travel for extended periods across Queensland's regions.You will have a keen eye for detail, great time management and effective problem-solving skills.
