As an OO4 Ranger in theCooktown Management Unit, you'll be at the heart of protecting and managing some of Queensland's most iconic national parks. You'll support the Ranger-in-Charge andthe OO5/2IC Ranger to deliver the monthly operational program and annual work plan across a diverse estate of 11 national parks, coordinating OO3 Rangers and prioritising field activities to ensure tasks are completed safely, efficiently and effectively.This is not your typical desk job! A major part of your role is working alongside Aboriginal rangers in jointly managed Cape York Peninsula Aboriginal Land (CYPAL) national parks. You'll help implement cultural and natural resource management activities, support on-country operations, and build strong, respectful partnerships with Traditional Owners. Your contribution will ensure cultural values, conservation goals, and land management priorities are woven into everyday operations, giving you the chance to make a real impact on-country. The OO4 Ranger is also a key player across the broader Southern Cape York District. You'll get ready to roll out for planned burns, wildfire responses and district support whenever it's needed. Fire operations are an exciting and essential part of the job, often at short notice, giving you hands-on experience in protecting landscapes, communities and wildlife from bushfires. Beyond operational leadership, you'll support workplace health and safety, maintain plant and equipment, participate in compliance activities and contribute to reporting and administrative tasks. You'll need to stay organised, proactive and flexible, balancing office responsibilities with fieldwork, often in remote and rugged terrain.
