Role Overview The Cook or Chef at Mr Pilgrim Café plays a central role in bringing the menu to life each day. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys a busy café environment and who understands that every plate carries the reputation of the venue. The position involves preparation, cooking, station management and maintaining a smooth kitchen flow during peak service periods. The Chef contributes to quality, consistency, creativity and calm leadership. The ideal applicant thrives in a team that values integrity, discipline and hospitality. Key Responsibilities 1. Menu Preparation and Culinary Execution • Prepare and cook all items on the Mr Pilgrim menu including breakfast plates, brunch dishes, burgers, wraps, salads, bowls, grilled meats, schnitzels, seafood and signature desserts. • Present dishes with café elegance and consistency. • Maintain accurate seasoning, flavour profiles and portion sizes. • Assist with menu refinement, seasonal specials and creative improvements. 2. Mise-en-Place and Service Readiness • Complete daily preparation for breakfast, grill, fry, salad and dessert sections. • Prepare proteins, marinades, sauces and condiments with precision. • Ensure the kitchen is fully stocked and organised for high-demand periods. 3. Live Service and Kitchen Flow • Lead assigned stations during peak breakfast and lunch service. • Execute multiple dockets with timing and accuracy. • Communicate clearly with the front-of-house team regarding dietary needs and special requests. 4. Food Safety, Hygiene and WHS • Maintain compliance with SA Health standards and internal protocols. • Monitor temperature control, safe storage and allergen awareness. • Follow safe equipment handling and daily cleaning routines. 5. Team Support and Skills Development • Assist with training and guiding junior kitchen staff. • Contribute to a positive and organised kitchen culture. • Support teamwork, communication and respect within the kitchen. 6. Stock Management and Cost Awareness • Assist with ordering, stock checks and supplier coordination. • Control wastage and monitor yield and portioning. • Report stock shortages, equipment concerns and supplier issues promptly. Core Skills and Experience • Two to three years of experience as a Cook or Chef in a café, brunch venue or casual dining restaurant. • Proficiency across multiple stations including grill, fry, breakfast line and cold section. • Ability to deliver refined café dishes with speed and consistency. • Strong multitasking and docket management skills. • Knowledge of food safety and kitchen hygiene. • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
