Job Description As the Infection Prevention and Control Lead, you’ll be at the forefront of protecting the wellbeing of detainees and staff by preventing and managing communicable diseases. Your work will help create a safer environment and reduce the risk of infectious disease outbreaks. In this position, you will take the lead in ensuring robust infection prevention and control measures are developed and implemented. You will also manage vaccination programs for detainees and staff, ensuring timely and effective delivery. A key part of the role involves designing communicable disease management strategies, including comprehensive Outbreak Management Plans, to minimise risks and respond effectively to potential incidents. As a subject matter expert, you will provide guidance to internal and external stakeholders, offering practical advice and support to maintain a safe environment. The scope of this role extends across Immigration Detention Centres and Alternative Places of Detention (APODs). We’re looking for a clinical leader who thrives on collaboration and innovation. You have strong clinical expertise and a solid understanding of communicable diseases, epidemiology, and outbreak management. Experience in strategic planning, program development, and the ability to develop and implement clinical policies is essential. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills are critical, along with a commitment to ethical conduct, cultural competence, and patient-centred care. You’ll hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Nursing, current AHPRA registration, and a postgraduate qualification in Infection Prevention and Control. With 5 years of post-grad clinical experience, you’ll bring expertise in vaccination programs and infection control across hospital, community, or clinic settings. Experience in detention or correctional healthcare is desirable but not mandatory.
