About the role We are seeking several seasonal casuals to work on the National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) project in 2026. In this role, you will be working alongside like-minded teachers and professionals in assessing a range of writing responses from Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 students. We offer flexibility to work from home, while providing support for you to successfully complete the marking of the NAPLAN Writing assessment. We have positions available for teachers currently residing in both metropolitan and regional Northern Territory. Payrate: the payrate for markers are $5.56 per script and $1.00 per blank script for marking. Markers are paid $56.28 per hour for training. Responsibilities Attend and successfully complete relevant training and induction. Demonstrate competence in the online marking procedures and instructions. Complete all marking in accordance with training and rostered dates. Maintain the security and confidentiality of all assessment information and materials. Mark candidate responses, at an item level, using the Pearson Online Marking System. Mark candidate responses of items accurately and in a timely manner in accordance with the marking criteria set by ACARA, the Northern Territory Department of Education (NT DoE) and Pearson. Requirements We require markers, group leaders and professional leaders to be available for the entire period of live marking, including training. Marking period: approximately four to six weeks. Training period: in the week of the 9th of March, 2026. Final dates to be advised. Marking will begin immediately after the training period and continue until approximately mid to late April. Accurately mark candidates’ work samples using the marking framework presented in training for writing. Receive ongoing support and instruction regarding the marking of NAPLAN writing as part of quality assurance protocols. Be able to work as part of a supportive team and have the ability to work in accordance with marking rate targets. Markers are required to be online during a mandatory marking period and commit to undertake a minimum of four hours of marking daily, for six days a week during the live marking period. Please note our marking activities are not in operation during the Easter public holiday. Qualifications & experience Have been teaching English in an Australian Primary or Secondary School for at least one year. Have at least a Bachelor’s degree in teaching. Be able to use a computer to conduct marking and complete appropriate training. Have an understanding of criterion-based marking (writing), grammar and structures.
